Join me as your tour lead and photography guide on a Wildlife Safari Tour to Tanzania to visit the Tarangire National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater. The 12 day and 11 night photo safari sets off from Arusha. Guests will arrive at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and be transferred to the Arusha Coffee Lodge, housed on an active, working coffee growing estate. The following day we undertake an overland trip to Tarangire for four nights. After photographing wildlife on 8 game drives we head on northwards to the north eastern side of the Ngorongoro crater for four nights.
Our ranger was the best – knowledgeable and with a keen sense of what the animals were likely to do next. At times, we were so close to the animals that we could hear them breathe! Ed was able to hold a conversation, recommend photographic settings and image composition. And he would spot animals in the bush all at the same time.Jeanine W.
The wildlife in the crater is constrained by the land formation giving rise to enthralling densities of wildlife. The last two nights are spent on the south-western side of the crater at the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge – 12 game drives in the Crater – before heading back to Kilimanjaro airport. Saying goodbye is always difficult but having the memories and images to share with family and friends makes it so much easier. This is also a great opportunity to start thinking about your next wildlife photographic tour in Africa or Brazil.
Call Ed on +1-919-527-4440 now to discuss or reserve this trip over the phone.
This tour is for photographers of all skill levels. The techniques and explanations, adapted to the situation at hand, provided from time to time can be put into practice and immediately experienced in the field. In addition to the technical knowledge, you will gain a greater appreciation for, and understanding of, the magnificent animals we’ll encounter.
The experienced game rangers who accompany us on game drives will explain the behavior and lifestyle of the animals as we encounter them, enabling you to take meaningful images depicting the nature of your fascinating subjects. Each vehicle carries a dedicated tracker constantly on the lookout for clues pointing to animal activity in the vicinity.
Services and facilities
The tour accommodates a maximum of 6 photographers. The same ground transport company will accompany the photography group for the duration of the stay in Tanzania. Safari Tour Outline and Itinerary
10 November 2017
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by a meeting service representative. The drive to Arusha Coffee Lodge, is about one hour.
Meet your fellow guests for dinner at the Lodge. Stay overnight in a plantation room with en-suite bathroom. Your stay includes breakfast.
11 November 2017
Breakfast is followed by a road trip into the Tarangire National Park. Along this main route, we’ll detour on short drives into areas known for their wildlife. One of the lesser-known, but stunning, game reserves in Tanzania, Tarangire rivals the Serengeti in its great number and diversity of wildlife.
This park is one of the most scenic in Tanzania with huge baobab trees and its extensive herds of elephant and towers of giraffe. It is also an ornithologist’s paradise offering shelter to hundreds of species of birds, including the largest bird in the world, the ostrich and the heaviest bird that can fly, the Kori Bustard.
11 November 2017 to 14 November 2017
Relish in your four night stay at Sanctuary Swala Camp in a tent with en-suite bathroom. Each canvas tent pavilion is shaded by tall acacia trees and within sight of the well frequented water hole. Your stay includes all meals, game drives, laundry services, all beverages, alcoholic or non-alcoholic. Excludes champagne and premium brand spirits.
Daily activity consists of one game drive in the early morning followed by breakfast at the lodge. Lunch is provided and followed by a light snack before heading out in the late afternoon for a second daily game drive. On some days, a night drive may take place depending on the animal activity and weather conditions.
15 November 2017
The morning will start with a pre-dawn game drive. After breakfast we head out towards the Ngorongoro Crater, through Tarangire National Park, taking in sights of wildlife and stopping whenever justified to make photos. Keep a lookout for the herds of migratory elephants – counts of up to three thousand have been reported after the rain season.
Our destination, Ngorongoro Crater, is one of the most well-known wildlife parks in the world with abundant lion prides, hyena cackles and other predators. After the four hour drive we will check in at the Ngorongoro Crater Camp, located on the Crater rim, on the northeast side of the Crater. The views of the sun rising through the swirling mist on the opposite side of the crater are breath-taking and never the same.
Lunch will be served after check-in and in the early afternoon, the first descent into the Crater will bring us into contact with the first sighting of flamingos in the alkaline lake in the centre of the caldera.
16 November 2017 to 18 November 2017
Enjoy the four night stay in a suite with en-suite bathroom with indoor bucket shower, with personal tent attendant filling your bucket shower, from the outside, to the perfect temperature.
The classic safari tents feature hairdryers and plug points and a small sitting area in front of each of the tents where early morning coffee and biscuits can be enjoyed before starting the day of incredible game viewing.
Included are: three meals daily, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, scheduled safari activities, refreshments on game drives and laundry.
On the last day, we check out of the Ngorongoro Crater Camp after breakfast drive for about an hour through the crater heading to the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge located on the south west side of the crater – confusing, right? One is the Camp, the other the Lodge.
19 November 2017 to 20 November 2017
andBeyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge has been called the game lodge at the top of the world and, between the natural riches of the Crater spread out at its feet and the amazing architecture, it’s easy to believe that you have entered a realm of pure fantasy. With ever-changing views as clouds scurry over the huge wildlife cauldron below, the location is truly breathtaking.
Indulge during the two night stay in a suite with en-suite bathroom with bath and shower. Your stay includes three meals daily, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, scheduled safari activities, refreshments on game drives and laundry.
21 November 2017
The morning starts with the last visit to the caldera on this outing. Grab the last frames of the approximately 25,000 large animals that live in the crater – the black rhinoceros, the African buffalo and the hippopotamus. There are many other ungulates too: the blue wildebeest, zebra, eland, and gazelles. Keep a lookout for servals which occur widely.
After lunch at the Lodge we return to Kilimanjaro airport, stopping in Arusha for any last-minute shopping. Family members that remained at home deserve to share in the delights of visiting Africa – a small gift will be most appreciated.
Each guest returns home or embarks on other travels in the country as privately arranged.
